TIPS TO KNOW ABOUT OUR HOLY WEEK

WHY IS FRIDAY OF SORROWS SO IMPORTANT IN CREVILLENT?

The devotion and singing of the Sorrows in Crevillent was born more than 300 years ago.

The Sorrows are sung by a popular choir in the Church of Our Lady of Bethlehem, a week before the Holy Week, being the most beloved day for the people of Crevillent, the Friday of Sorrows.

WHAT IS THE ENCOUNTER IN “LA MORQUERA”?

When the Procession to the Calvary arrives at the place called “La Morquera”, this emotional ceremony takes place.

In the street called San Sebastián, at around 7:00 a.m., during the dawn of Good Friday, Jesus of Nazareth and Our Lady of Sorrows approach, both images carved by Mariano Benlliure. Jesus moves his right arm, symbolically embracing his mother and imparting the blessing to all present.

BENLLIURE AND CREVILLENT?

Of the 30 Holy Week Brotherhoods, eight of them were made by the Valencian artist for the processions of Crevillent. An open-air museum.
